The European Commission has now given State Aid approval to the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. As expected small and medium scale biomass tariffs will be unchanged but concerns were expressed that the large biomass tariff (for very large biomass installations over 1 MW) was too generous. The large biomass tariff has therefore been revised to 1p per kWh.
Regulations have already been laid before Parliament and Ofgem is ready to start accepting applications as soon as regulations come into force. We are delighted to hear that the RHI scheme is on track to open by the end of November and expect to see a big increase in the number of biomass boilers helping to cut carbon emissions across the UK.
